Fabric-reinforced acrylic sheets used as bonding gaskets for acrylic canopies are manufactured by AMERICAN ACRYLIC CORPORATION in accordance with exacting specifications of aircraft manufacturers. Attachment sheets are cast at elevated temperature and pressure from uncross-linked methyl methacrylate-based acrylic resin to permit easy and permanent cementing to aircraft transparencies using solvent-type adhesives.
Although other reinforcements are sometimes employed, most attachment sheets are reinforced with either fiberglass or nylon fabric reinforcement. Popular fiberglass reinforcements are style 7781 and style 7628. Styles 1527 and 1564 are also used.
Several styles of nylon fabric are used, including S1077 (alternate designation: SN-10) and S1022 (alternate designation: SN-49).
Most canopy attachment products are supplied with documentation certifying procedural and material conformance to specification. Weaver's certification of the reinforcement is included. Purchaser must advise if quality assurance test data beyond that for QPL qualification is required.
